This shrimp pad Thai is an easy restaurant-quality dish that can easily be made at home in 20 minutes and all the ingredients can be delivered right to your doorstep.
Calling all non cooks and seafood lovers, do I have the company for you! Harbour Trading Co. is a fabulous company offering fresh caught seafood by Captains and fisherman (who they know personally) delivered to your home with all the organic ingredients you need to make a full chef created meal for 2 or 4 people. I think this is a great idea and perfect if you live in a area where it is hard to get fresh seafood.
When I shared with my husband that I was going to be working with Harbour Trading Co., I asked which dish he would like to try. He chose their shrimp pad Thai dish. Not only was he excited to try the dish, but he offered to cook the entire dish for us! Now, my husband is the non-cook in the family. He has been known to pick up a knife in the kitchen, but not since his bachelor days, but why pass up a chance to have him cook for me? What a great test of how easy these recipes can be executed by an inexperienced cook and a fun experiment. So the challenge was on.
There’s one thing I know about my husband, when he is working on something, he immerses himself fully, he will do it to the best of his ability and is fully committed to the task. It was so cute to see him in action.
Here are my top 10 tips that I go by and some I picked up while observing my own non cook in the kitchen:
- Make something that you know you can manage.
- Read the entire recipe BEFORE you start cooking.
- Gather all of your ingredients and equipment along with your recipe directions at your work station. Lay the ingredients out in order you need them. This way you are not running all over the kitchen in the middle of cooking your dish.
- Use a sharp knife, it’s sounds silly but it’s easier to cut yourself when you are struggling with a blunt knife because you are more likely to slip.
- Taste and season as you go because cooking is all about building flavor and be cautious of salt use. You can always add, but you can take away.
- Use the best and freshest ingredients you can find, it will reflect in the finished dish.
- Take your time in the plating of your food because we eat with our eyes first.
- Cook often, you will get better with practice. I promise.
- Clean as you go. If there is pan you are no longer using, put it out of the way in the sink to keep your work station clutter free.
- Have fun! Get someone in the kitchen with you and have a glass of wine while you’re cooking.

Shrimp pad Thai is one of our favorite dishes and we visit our local Thai restaurant as often as we can, but it was so nice to eat this delicious dish at home, and even better have it cooked for me. What makes my husband a little anxious about cooking a meal is getting the timing right for all the components, but with this recipe that was not an issue because the noodles cooked first, then the shrimp is cooked with the rest of the ingredients and and everyone gets happy in one pan. This packing and shipping method is safe and effective to ensure the delivery of quality food. The shrimp are shrink-wrapped which I know keeps air out and freshness in and their seafood is never frozen.
Along with a lovely note from David, there is a card with all the information you need to make the recipe along with the equipment list and full instruction. On the reverse side was the location of where the shrimp were caught, the method and the name of the Captain. My seafood Captain was Eddie. Thank you Eddie! Furthermore, there is a ‘fish trax’ tracking code (that was developed by fisherman and scientists) that allows you to scan the bar code onto your mobile device to help to find out more information about the food you eat. Talk about knowing where your seafood came from? Sourcing seafood responsibly and the sustainability is very important and you can see that Harbour Trading Co. are very serious about their commitment to this.
