When I was asked to do a review for Mary’s secret ingredients gourmet surprise box , I was intrigued by the concept. The concept being that Mary’s take a collection of seasonal gourmet items and kitchen products, packages them up and sends them out all over the country, but the contents remain a secret until you open the box. Sounds like fun!
The boxes are seasonal, Spring box mails April 25th, Summer box mails June 25th, Autumn box mails September 25th and Winter box mails November 25th.
Not only is this a fun idea, because who doesn’t like to receive a surprise gourmet gift box? But they are also helping Feed The Children, so not only are you helping to feed your own family, you’re helping to feed others too.
My box arrived via USPS. My first impression upon opening the box was the simple, but eye catching sea blue and white tissue paper. It made me feel like I was opening a gift from Tiffany and who doesn’t love that? Upon looking over the goods in the box, I immediately felt like I was looking on the shelves of a specialty food store. You know, when you see products you’ve never seen before like sea salt quinoa chips and you think, now that sounds like a great snack and I want to try it. The variety of items were very pleasing to me and are reminiscent of the season. But it’s not all food items, there’s handy kitchen items too like a non-stick toaster oven liner, but since I don’t own a toaster oven it’s a great item nonetheless and I know who I can pass it on to make good use of it. Of course I was also excited to see a can of ginger ale (I love my ginger) made with 100% fresh ginger, I can’t wait to chill that and try it.
Along with the goods comes a lovely letter from Mary and The Little Book of Ingredients, that has the details and information on the companies that provided the ingredients as well as manufacturer coupons and a coupon for my next box from Mary’s Secret Ingredients. Here’s what goodies were in my secret box:
|Coconut cashew energy bar|
Twice baked potato stix
Cilantro pineapple salsa
Non-stick toaster ovenliner
In conclusion, I have to say I don’t have any cons to this service. At $25.95 per box, where that may seem pricy, the actual value of the box is at least $30. The quality of goods speak for themselves and there’s been many occasions where I’ve gone into a specialty food store and spent twice that much.
